Cornhole for Fundraising

Fundraisers are a great way to raise money for schools, organizations, church groups, and youth clubs or sports programs. In addition, fundraisers are a unique way to promote community awareness and involvement for many of these groups and activities. Without fundraising, many beneficial community programs would be grossly under-funded and probably fail. And as many of these programs and activities work to benefit the youth in the community, contributing to fundraisers (or simply volunteering your time) is an excellent way to not only give back to the community at large – but to also improve your community environment in a variety of meaningful ways.

So, where does Cornhole fit into the fundraising system? Well, if you live anywhere near an elementary school in America, you’ve probably had a number of neighborhood kids step up to your doorstep and give you a sales pitch for some product or other in an effort to raise funds for a school-related activity. These are typically cookie dough in tubs, bundled yard-waste bags, scented candles or soaps, holiday wrapping paper, magazine subscriptions, microwave popcorn, coupon books, gift cards, and candy or fruit. Most of the products are supplied directly by the manufacturer and the school gets a certain percentage of the margin dollars after all of the items are sold. The Product Sales Fundraiser has been enormously successful for many schools and after-school youth programs, but with the rise in parental concern about children going from door to door and pitching sales to strangers, the Special Events Fundraiser has become increasingly more popular. This is where Cornhole fits in as a fund-raising tool for schools and youth programs.

Most elementary schools have an annual carnival. Along with the inflatable bouncy house, silent auctions, carnival games, and cotton candy machines, many of these special events also offer tournament-style games where participants can make small donations to play and, if they win, earn a small trophy. Given that Cornhole is a game played in nearly every neighborhood in America, it’s a sure bet that there are a few Cornhole league members in each neighborhood that would be willing to haul their boards out for some friendly competition and raise a few needed dollars for their local elementary school (and it sure beats a bake sale).

Players and league members know that Cornhole is a great indoor/outdoor activity that brings people together in the spirit of friendly competition. As a fund-raising tool, a Cornhole tournament makes for an outstanding fundraising opportunity for schools, individual youth or after-school groups and activities. So, if you find yourself in a PTA meeting and the topic of fundraising for school-related programs comes up, make a pitch for a Cornhole tournament. The kids in the cheerleading squad, on the football team, or in the music department will benefit enormously.
